- Wood with indistinct growth rings, diffuse-porous. Vessels solitary and in radial
multiples, usually of 2–4, mean tangential diameter less than 100 μm; perforations exclusively
simple; intervessel pits crowded alternate; vessel-ray pits with much-reduced
borders to apparently simple and horizontally elongate; parenchyma vasicentric to
lozenge-aliform and/or confluent; rays nonstoried, multiseriate rays commonly > 4-seriate,
heterocellular rays with procumbent body cells and 1(–2) rows of upright/square
marginal cells or rays with procumbent, square, and upright cells mixed throughout
the body; uniseriate rays rare to absent, laticifers present in some rays; sheath cells
common. Fibers nonseptate, thin- to thick-walled.
