Diagnosis
Growth layers distinct with a gradual or abrupt transition from early to late wood, in root wood late wood constituted mostly of only one row of tracheids, tracheids rectangular in cross section, bordered pits on radial tracheid walls round (abietoid), mostly in one horizontaly row, in root wood arranged in two to three rows; wood parenchyma absent or sparcely present, rays uniseriate, seldom partially two rows, 1-12 cells high, occasionally higher, in root wood mostly 1-2 cells high, cells long elliptical, 15-20 pm high, in root wood 15-40 pm high, walls thin and smooth (abietineous pitting absent), indentures present, in root wood feebly developed or absent, in the cross-field simple circular and cupressoide pits present, 2-6 mostly in one row.
