- Stem about 17 mm. diam., unbranched, surrounded by petiole bases and roots to form an axis up to 7 cms. diam. ; xylem cylinder 11.5-13.0mm, in external diam., and 3.5-6.0 ram. thick, consisting of about 24 distinct linear or arched strands deeply indented adaxially ; narrow or tapered masses of sclerenchyma included within the xylem arches ; xylem of petiole indented adaxially including an irregular mass or masses of sclerenehyma.
