Diagnosis
Trifoliate spore, inner layer smooth; middle layer folds into a random pattern of membraneous high ridges which generally do not enclose definite lumina. The ridge crests are undulose with the high points formed at the junction of two intersecting ridges. Ornamentation on the middle layer is complex, consisting of subparallel ribs where it is appressed to the inner layer, being granular to conate on the ridges. The coni are confined to the ridge crests, resulting in a serrate margin. The trifolium is similar to the ridges, striate at the base, grading distally into a fine granular surface and then into a fine, indistinct reticulum with small, sharp coni forming a serrate margin.
