- Monocotyledonous root with conspicuous 3-4 layered velamen, velamen cells with reticulate thickening : exodermal cells thick walled pitted and some thin walled; aerenchymatous cortex (middle) traversed by strands of cells 1-2 layered; exarch xylem bundles, 13 in number alternating with thin walled phloem faintly vissible at places; metaxylem vessels 45.98-55.36 » broad in transverse section and show scalariform bordered pits; protoxylem vessels 13.85-24.22 » broad in transverse section showing close spiral thickenings; xylem parenchyma and fibres found in association. The central position of
pith made up of thin walled cells and thickened cells at the periphery
near xylem.
