Oval leaves with a cordate base ; petiole perpendicular to leaf lamina , the place of petiole attachment being prominent ; the margin is entire , undulate , or slightly denticulate with palmate venation . Seven to nine thick , first order veins originate at the point of petiol attachment : one is central and there are three or four lateral pairs . Several veins of second and third orders , of nearly the same thickness , extend from these . Between them there are thin veins of a higher order which form a reticulate venation .
