- Diagnosis
- Pollen grains free, isopolar, stephano-colporate, echinate, spherical to suboblate. Colpi short and narrow, scarcely surpassing the margins of the ora. Ora circular to elliptical, endoannulate. Exine clearly stratified. Columellae single and digitating, of variable height, always more strongly developed underneath the spines, forming mammiform bases. Tectum perforate, faintly microgranulate or rugulate to verrucate. There can be differential sculpture between the mammiform bases and the other parts of the grain. In this species, the sculpture is coarser on the mammiform bases of the spines. The solid spines are sharp-pointed and generally unbranched.
