Diagnosis
Flower bisexual, superior, pedicellate, subtended by two valvate bracteoles. Sepals two; petals four, closed; stamens four, unequal; sepals, petals, and stamens all adnate to the receptacle. Anthers introrse, longitudinally dehiscent, each with four pollen sacs. Gynoecium adnate near the base and to one side of the receptacle. Ovary superior, stipitate and curved. Style coiled. Pollen tricolpate, prolate/oblate spheroidal, exine coarse, striato-reticulate, colpi meeting at the pole, colpus membrane broken to near the base.
