Diagnosis
Branched, upright, heterosporous plant, with rounded rooting base known internally from permineralized organs and externally from compressed organs. Coronate protostele with secondary xylem restricted to the stem-root transition zone, tapering distally. Periderm restricted to the proximal stem region. Helically produced ligulate microphylls attached to distal portion of stem and vascularized by decurrent leaf traces. Distinguished from its most similar taxon, Hartsellia Gastaldo, Gibson, and Blanton-Hooks, by branching patterns and leaf morphology. In addition, Hartsellia is known only from compressions.
