When published, the fossil-species included in synonymy two previously validly published fossil-species, Fagus attenuata Goepp. (Tert. Fl. Schossnitz 18. 1-2 Mar 1855) and Fagus feroniae Unger (Chlor. Protogaea (6-7): pl. 28. 11-13 Aug 1845); and therefore, the resulted new name, Alnus julianiformis, is nomenclaturally superfluous and illegitimate.

Originally published as 'comb. nov.' being based on the nomen nudum Phyllites julianiformis Sternb. (1823).
