Diagnosis
Stout erect main stem at least 20 cm long and 1.5 cm wide, with helically arranged lateral branches which arc more closcly spaced distally giving the apex a tufted appearance. Many bifurcated roots radiating from the base of the main stem. Lateral branches undivided or dichotomous at an acute angle, at least 30 cm long, bearing more or less helically disposed three-dimensional vegetative or fertile ultimate units, Ultimate unit asymmetrically triangular in outline, showing up to five levels of dichotomy. Lateral units 22-30 mm long on branches 2.5 mm wide, reaching up to 45 mm long on branches 4.5 mm in diameter. First dichotomy in ultimate unit occuring in the proximal third giving two superposed segments. Vegetative units dichotomous; tips slightly spatulate; fertile unit divided into two unequal parts each consisting of a pseudo-main axis which forks at the apex and bears three dichotomizing laterals; fertile tips downwardly recurved, supporting pairs of pendulous sporangia. Sporangia fusiform, 1.7-4 mm long, with a vertical dehiscence line along one side.
