- Growth rings distinct with abrupt transition from early wood to latewood;
circular bordered pits on radial tracheid walls uni- to triseriate, predominantly biseriate, opposite; notched pits present; circular bordered pits uni- and biseriate rarely present on tangential tracheid walls. Cross-field pits exclusively taxodioid, circular to oval, 1–4 pits per cross-field, arranged in one or two seriate; axial parenchyma diffuse, horizontal walls of parenchyma cells smooth, cells containing dark deposits; rays uniseriate, sometimes partially biseriate to occasionally partially triseriate; both horizontal and tangential walls of ray cells smooth; ray tracheids absent; resin ducts not observed.
