- Diagnosis
- Infructescence bearing sessile fruits on the adaxial side. Pistillate flower lacking perianth and is subtended by a scale-like bract. No evidence of scars for perianth or stamens. Gynoecium composed of one carpel with a short style and sessile stigma. Stigma obliquely decurrent, extending to form a flattened, papillate surface. Fruit ellipsoid with a longitudinal suture on the distal (abaxial) side; two seeds are borne in the single locule. Fruit wall composed of sclerenchyma. Seed coat consisting of lignified hard cells and having a verrucate surface. Pollen grains tricolpate with reticulate exine.
