- Transition from early- to latewood
gradual. Early wood tracheids much wider than
latewood tracheids. Bordered pits in the radial walls
of the earlywood tracheids mostly arranged in a single
vertical row. Axial parenchyma present. Rays homocellular
and uniseriate, short, 1–10 cells high. Ray cell
walls predominantly thick and simply pitted. Ray tracheids
occur. Cross-field pits in the earlywood circular
in shape.
