Diagnosis
Flower heads consisting of a central receptacle bearing numerous tiny flowers. Flowers actinomorphic, pentamerous, bisexual. Perianth with more than three whorls of five tepals. Androecium monadelphous with five stamens. Anthers tetrasporangiate with fused filaments. Pollen grains tricolpate and reticulate. Gynoecium eusyncarpous, pentalocular. Five carpels, each with axile placentation and a single ovule.
